Setting up redundancy

The CAB 8n redundancy system allows a standby unit to replace an active unit on the network if it stops functioning.

This section assumes you have physically installed and connected two CAB 8ns, as described in the section Operating modes and redundancy in the CAB 8n Hardware Manual. It also assumes you have dragged two CAB 8n devices and a NioNode, nControl node or nTouch 180 node over to the design page in NWare.

To set up redundancy

  1. Deploy the project.
  2. Open the CAB 8n blocks to display the control surfaces.
  3. Type the hardware IDs for the master and slave CABs into the Id boxes on the CAB control surfaces.

Each CAB will need a unique ID, and in each case, when a valid number is entered, the green Link LED next to the ID number will light. The meter LEDs on the front of the CAB will start to represent the signal levels for the audio channels.

  4. On the master CAB 8n control surface, in the Failover Mode list, click Master.
  5. On the slave CAB 8n control surface, in the Failover Mode list, click Slave.
  6. Type the bundle numbers for transmission and reception of audio into the Bundle boxes on the master CAB control surface.
  7. Type same bundle numbers for transmission and reception of audio used for the master CAB into the Bundle boxes on the slave CAB control surface.

The TX and RX LED(s) will be lit on the master CAB, but not the slave.

  8. Type the bundle numbers for transmission and reception of audio into the Bundle boxes on the other devices in the design that will receive audio from the CAB or send audio to the CAB. Check that the TX and RX lights are lit showing that audio is flowing through the system.
  9. On the master CAB 8n control surface:
    1. Click Persistent configuration.
    2. Click Standalone mode.
    3. Click Persistent configuration.
  10. Repeat step 9 on the slave CAB 8n control surface.

The units will click when these settings are changed and the display on the slave CAB will change to show arrows continuously moving from left to right. The unit is now in standby mode.
