Setting up the gain structure

If you are planning to use the connectors on the CAB 8n as inputs, we recommend that you configure them to provide optimal performance for the expected input signal levels. The settings you need to adjust are located on the Audio tab of the NWare CAB 8n device.

If the maximum output level of each audio source is known, you can set the Maximum Input Signal setting on the CAB 8n device to match this level. You can also add some headroom, if desired, to prevent the signal from being clipped automatically if it exceeds the maximum level.

When the audio arrives into the CAB 8n, the gain level will be adjusted automatically to make optimal use of the A to D converter. For example, if the input signal level equals the maximum, which is 0.25V, but full scale in the A to D converter is 2.5V, the signal level will be multiplied by 10 to equal 2.5V.

Once the Maximum Input Signal setting has been specified for each input channel, it should not need adjustment. Only the Level Control setting needs to be adjusted.
