Dealing with project compatibility issues

Normally, when you open a project created in a previous version of NWare, it continues to function without any problems. However, when a new version of NWare is released, sometimes devices that existed in previous versions are updated or even removed from the device tree; this in turn means you may need to perform some maintenance tasks before your project will run.

When the settings for a device are updated, because a new check box has been added to the device properties, for example, the old version of the device in your project is referred to as an out of date device. It is quite common for out of date devices to exist, as we often improve algorithms and the devices that control them when we release a new version of software.

Tip: We recommend that you check for out of date devices each time you upgrade NWare, and also if you choose to downgrade NWare to an earlier version.

Sometimes, devices are removed from the device tree altogether. This is usually because the devices are beta devices created for a particular project. In a later release, the functionality from the devices is reworked and transferred to other devices, then the original devices are no longer required. These devices are quite rare, and a referred to as obsolete devices.
