Gathering log files from MediaMatrix nodes using Lumberjack

When you want to gather together the log files from several nodes, including NioNodes and nTouch 180 nodes, for example, you can use a utility called Lumberjack. This is included in each release of NWare.

Lumberjack gathers the log files together from each node on the local area network into a single zip file, which can then be emailed to MediaMatrix Technical Support.

To gather NioNode log files using Lumberjack

  1. Open a Command Prompt window.
  2. Navigate to the NWare installation folder.
  3. Navigate to the Utilities folder.
  4. Type lumberjack <file name>.zip and press Enter.

Tip: You can specify a file path before <file name>.zip to save the file to a different location.

  5. If a Windows Security Alert dialog box is displayed, click Unblock.

A number of messages will be displayed as Lumberjack retrieves the log files from the MediaMatrix nodes on the network and compresses them into a zip file. For example:

    grabbing logs from nion_n1

    grabbing logs from nion_n2

    grabbing logs from ntouch180_nt1

    compressing log files to nodelogs.zip...

Tip: If the message access denied is displayed for a node, it means that the settings for defaultuser are preventing Lumberjack from gathering the log from the node. Connect to the node via the web interface and ensure that the Log Access privilege for defaultuser is set to View and clear. For a NioNode, see Managing users in the NION Hardware Manual. Settings for other node types are similar.
