Example MediaMatrix configurations

MediaMatrix provides echo cancellation via the NioNode NIO-AEC card. Each of these cards can provide acoustic echo cancellation for up to eight channels of audio.

The sections below show how echo cancellation can be provided in different scenarios. In each case it takes just a couple of seconds for the system to converge and start cancelling the echo. The cancellation then works instantly every time audio is passed through.

Note: If the audio characteristics of the room where the microphones are situated changes, because a microphone is moved, for example, the system has to reconverge. That is, repeat the process of analysing the audio characteristics of the room and change the settings of the adaption filter until it successfully cancels the echo. This may take a few seconds.

Understanding the flyoffs for the NIO-AEC card

Scenario 1

At the far end, a telephone is connected to a MediaMatrix Telephone Hybrid. This device converts the audio from the telephone microphone to line out audio, before it is fed into an input card in the NioNode. The audio is transferred from the NioNode to the near end via a regular NioNode output card, where it can be heard from the speaker.

The microphone input from the room at the near end is fed into the AEC card, where the echo is removed, and then to the output card for transfer to the telephone via the Telephone Hybrid.
