The non-linear processing (NLP) stage of the echo cancellation system will detect when there is audio coming from the near end. If there is no audio coming through, then the system will switch off the output to the far end.
Sometimes, there may be silence at the near end (so that the output is automatically switched off to the far end), but then soon after, the people start to speak again and output is generated. The system must cope with natural pauses in conversation without chopping off the start or end of what is said.
The MediaMatrix echo cancellation system is set up so that the NLP stage shuts off the output when the level of noise at the near end falls below a fixed threshold.
