Sizing pages to fit users' monitors

It is important to consider how the pages in your NWare project will look when they are displayed on your users' monitors. The resolution of a monitor determines how much viewable space is available, so a resolution of 1280x1024 will provide more space than one of 1024x768. You must also consider the on screen elements, including the status bar and the border of the window, as they will take up space. Most XVGA (1280x1024) monitors will therefore provide about 1245x905 pixels of usable screen space.

To add a sizing guide to a page

  1. Expand the device tree to display Graphic Elements & Blocks / Labels.
  2. Drag a label over to the page.
  3. Right-click the label, and then click Graphic Properties.
  4. Under Shape, click the radio button next to the list to enable it.

In the list, Rectangle is selected by default.

  5. Under Size, select the Lock Size check box.
  6. Type the monitor resolution into the Width and Height boxes.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Drag the rectangle to position it on the page.
  9. Right-click the rectangle, and then click Lock.

The rectangle will be locked in place, so it cannot be moved accidentally.

  10. If possible, before moving forward with the design of the page, set a monitor to the expected resolution for your users and check the appearance of the rectangle in Kiosk to ensure it is clearly visible.
  11. Use the rectangle as a sizing guide for the screen area while you complete the rest of the design.
  12. When you have finished the design, delete the rectangle.

If you leave the rectangle in place, it may be visible to users with higher resolution monitors.
