Multicast traffic

MediaMatrix products communicate and discover one another by utilizing multicast health and discovery packets. The transmission of this multicast traffic is critical to the operation of the system and must not be impeded. No multicast traffic blocking is acceptable.

Even though the multicast traffic comprises a large number of packets, the total volume of data is small because each packet is very small. Expect to see a large number of multicast packets when monitoring network traffic while a MediaMatrix system is being used, but notice that the actual amount of data is minimal.

This multicast traffic is absolutely critical to the successful operation of the system so there must be no other traffic on the network with a higher priority or higher quality of service.
