piond documentation

Is there solid documentation as to what piond (and other processes) is responsible for with the nion?

Alternatively/additionally is there documentation as to what a particular error code showing up in remote logs might mean.

I don't have the error code handy, but we had three different ones with the same description: "piond exited on its own accord".
